Sharp named USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year


MADISON, Wis. – Following an impressive third-place finish in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and a Big Ten title in the 1500 meters, Wisconsin men’s track and field junior Jackson Sharp has been named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Great Lakes Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.

It completes a sweep for Sharp as the Aussie was also named the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.

Sharp won the 1500 meters at the 2023 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors in the process. He went on to finish third in the 5000 meters at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, capturing his fourth All-America honor of the season.

Sharp also ran the sixth-fastest time in school history in the 5000 meters at the 2023 NCAA West Preliminary Round, clocking in at 13 minutes, 26.56 seconds.

He also had a stellar showing at the Penn Relays, leading the Badgers to the team title in the distance medley relay while also helping the team run a school record in the 4xmile relay.
