SEATTLE – Fresh off reaching her first NCAA final, Husky junior Sophie O’Sullivan kept her strong season moving forward in the Ireland kit today. O’Sullivan got a victory in the 1,500-meters at the European Team Championships in the third division, helping Ireland to the team win and a promotion up to division two.
The meet is being held in Silesia, Poland this week. The European Team Championships have a promotion and relegation system with the top and bottom three teams in each division moving up and down. Ireland was in division three this year but earned the team win to move up to division two for 2025.
O’Sullivan has dual citizenship with Australia and Ireland, where her mother, Sonia, was an Olympic and World medalist and won the European Cup (precursor to Team Championships) second division 1,500m title three times for Ireland. The new Husky School Record-holder went through a relaxed first few laps before sprinting the final 400-meters in 59-seconds to take the win in 4:27.96.
O’Sullivan earned Second Team All-America honors by making the NCAA Outdoor 1,500m final earlier this month. She went sub-4:10 in both the NCAA West Prelim quarterfinals and the NCAA semifinals, the first Husky ever to break that mark, with a School Record of 4:08.06.
