Badgers send 11 to compete in USATF Championships

MADISON, Wis. – Eleven current and former members of the Wisconsin men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at the USATF Outdoor Championships on Thursday-Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
 
Olympians Alicia Monson and Zach Ziemek highlight the Badger field with Monson competing in the women’s 10,000 meters on Thursday night and the 5,000 meters on Sunday night. Ziemek competes in the decathlon on Thursday and Friday.
 
Current Badgers competing are Destiny Huven (100-meter hurdles); Lawrence Johnson (100 meters), Josie Schaefer (shot put), Jason Swarens (shot put) and Giovanni Wearing (U20 110-meter high hurdles).
 
The 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships serve as the selection event for the following teams:

  • 2023 NACAC U23 Championships – July 21-23, San Jose, Costa Rica
  • 2023 Thorpe Cup – Aug. 12-13, Marburg, Germany
  • 2023 World Athletics Championships – Aug. 19-27, Budapest, Hungary
