ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan track and field program will have at least one representative at next month’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, as Wolverine alumna Cindy (Ofili) Sember clinched a berth with her finish at the 2023 UK Athletics Championships. The Wolverines also will have representatives at the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships and 2023 Pan Am U20 Championships.

Sember claimed her fourth national title in the 100-meter hurdles after her 12.98-second performance in the final. She will represent Great Britain on the world stage for the sixth time in her career, qualifying for her fourth World Championships.

In addition to Sember’s success, Michigan will send two athletes to the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica, at the end of July in Ziyah Holman and Corinne Jemison. Holman finished 11th in the 400-meter semifinal at the USATF Championships. Holman ran a strong first round, where she placed ninth with a time of 51.38 to advance to semis. She finished 11th in the semifinal in 52.37 seconds.

Also competing at the USATF Championships, Jemison finished sixth overall in the discus throw final. Her second throw was her strongest, a heave of 56.07 meters (183 feet, 11 inches). Jemison threw 54 meters or better on her first and fifth throws, fouling on throws three, four and six.

Competing at the USATF U20 Championships, Caleb Jarema earned his spot on Team USA for the 2023 Pan Am U20 Championships to be held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, in August.

Competing at this first U20 championships, Jarema earned the silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time of 8:50.49 was a 12-second improvement on his previous best.

Some additional notable results from the weekend:

• At the UK Athletics Championships Joshua Zeller claimed the silver medal in the 110-meter hurdle finals, facing a strong 3.2 meters-per-second tailwind, finishing with a time of 13.34 seconds. This is his second consecutive silver medal.

• Rising sophomore Trinity Franklin fell short of the U20 world team, placing fourth in the shot put final. Her best throw of 15.20 meters (49 feet, 10.5 inches) came on her second attempt.
