SEATTLE – After setting records on the track all spring, the Huskies earned a record haul of academic honors this week, as thirty-eight Huskies earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team distinction. The twenty recipients for the men’s squad were second-most of any team in the NCAA.
Washington also recently had 32 athletes named to the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
At the end of the spring quarter, the UW women’s team boasted a 3.57 cumulative grade point average, and the men’s team was not far behind with a 3.52 GPA. Both teams had the highest GPA for “large teams” within the athletic department in the spring quarter. Each team picked up USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors to go along with all the individual awards.
To earn individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, athletes must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, and also must compete in the NCAA Preliminary Championships outdoors, or finish in the top-48 in the east or west for multi-event athletes. The other means to qualify is to rank in the top-96 nationally in any event during the indoor season, or top-48 in a relay indoors, while meeting the same GPA requirement.
The Huskies had a program-record 20 on the men’s side and 18 on the women’s side. A year ago, UW had 16 men and 16 women make the cut. Washington’s 20 recipients on the men’s side trailed only BYU nationally.
For Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll inclusion, any student-athlete with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3-or-above, and who has served at least one year in residence at the institution, is eligible.
