LOS ANGELES – Federica Botter heads to Chengdu, China, to compete in the women’s javelin throw at the 2023 FISU World University Games from July 28 – August 8, 2023. She will compete for the Italian National Team at the international competition.
Botter is coming off an eighth-place finish the 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland, earlier this summer. The thrower recorded a mark of 53.72m to place top eight and finished as the top Italian thrower in the event.
During the 2023 outdoor season, Botter placed seventh in the javelin event at the NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, throwing 55.79m (183-0) in the final. Botter earned First Team All-America with the result. She broke a 25-year drought for UCLA, becoming the first female Bruin javelin thrower to receive All-American honors since Suzy Powell in 1998.
The Bruin also claimed the Pac-12 individual title in the women’s event at the Conference Championships in May. Botter launched a javelin 57.81m (189-08) in the finals of the women’s event on the first day of the 2023 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships in Walnut, Calif., at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Botter shattered her previous school record (53.57m, 175-09), and the second-place javelin thrower was nearly four meters short of the top spot. She holds the top mark in UCLA school history.
