Strong Group Collects Six Total Medals

BERKELEY – Although there are only a few weeks left until students report for the 2023 fall semester, many of California track & field’s top athletes have continued to compete throughout the summer. Over the past three days alone, six current and former Golden Bears competed in their respective nations’ championships, with four taking home gold medals and two others earning silver to add to their decorated careers.

The first of Cal’s quartet of national titles this weekend came courtesy of rising sophomore Audrey Jacobs, who earned her second straight Dutch gold medal in the hammer throw with a toss of 59.90m (196-6), while alumna Camryn Rogers continued her dominance in the event with a championship- and McLeod Athletic Park-record mark of 77.43m (254-0) at the Bell Canadian Track & Field Championships to earn her third straight crown. Rising sophomore Carolina Visca improved upon Cal’s javelin record at the Italian Championships, where she earned her third national title with a throw of 56.54m (185-6). Finally, rising junior and reigning European (and European U23) champion Mykolas Alekna won his second straight Lithuanian discus championship, launching the platter 69.30m (227-4).

Rising senior Busola Akinduro competed in both the triple and long jumps at the Canadian championships, taking second in the former with a leap of 12.82m (42-0.75) and finishing eighth with a PR of 5.63m (18-5.75) in the latter. Classmate Ivar Moisander won a silver medal of his own at the Swedish Championships – his highest career finish – with a hammer mark of 63.72m (209-0).
