COLUMBIA, S.C. (August 1, 2023) – First-year head coach Tim Hall has announced the hiring of Brock Moreaux as the new Assistant Coach in charge of Cross Country and Distances for the Gamecocks.
“We are very excited about the addition of Brock to lead our men’s and women’s distance program,” stated Hall. “His experience and success as a head coach will bring tremendous value and excitement to our program.”
Moreaux arrives to Columbia after serving as the Head Coach for New Orleans Track & Field and Cross Country. Moreaux first arrived to the Privateers in 2018, serving as the Assistant Head Coach until 2021 when he took over as the Associate Head Coach for the 2021-22 season. He was then named Head Coach for the 2022-23 campaign.
This past season alone, Moreaux took New Orleans to new heights as the women’s cross country squad won the program’s first-ever Southland Conference Championship – just the third conference championship in any sport in school history. The UNO women finished with 32 points, 55 points better than second place Lamar for the largest margin of victory in a Southland Championship since 2014. The Privateer men finished third with a total of 81 points, a new program best for placement and point totals.
Moreaux achieved a lot in such a short amount of time with the Privateers, including being named 2022 Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading his team to the Southland Conference championship. He also earned Louisiana Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year honors for that season. Moreaux has coached a combined 38 All-Southland Outdoor Track & Field selections and 25 All-Southland Indoor honorees.
Moreaux coached 16 total All-Southland Cross Country selections, in addition to 14 All-Louisiana Cross Country winners. He has guided six NCAA East Regional participants, two NCAA Cross Country Championship participants, and one Louisiana Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year winner.
Upon his arrival to New Orleans, Moreaux built a roster that reached as high as sixth in the South Central Region – the men’s highest ranking ever, and the women’s second highest and best ranking since they were fourth at the conclusion of the 2000 season.
