Rai Benjamin earned a bronze medal in the men’s 400m hurdles and Nia Ali advanced to the women’s 100m hurdles final during the fifth day of the 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary today (Aug. 23).
- Benjamin (USC, 2019) had a time of 47.56 to place third and earn a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles final. He advanced to the final by running 48.35 in the heats on Aug. 20 and 47.24 in the semifinals on Aug. 21.
- Ali (USC, 2011) ran 12.49 (-0.4) to take second in her 100m hurdles semifinal heat today to advance fourth to tomorrow’s final. Ali advanced to today’s semifinal by running 12.55 (+0.1) in the heats on Aug. 22.
- Aaron Brown (USC, 2014) and Andre De Grasse (USC, 2015), running for Canada, advanced out of the men’s 200m heats today to advance to the 200m semifinal tomorrow. Brown had a time of 20.08 (+0.0) and De Grasse 20.28 (-0.5) to rank fourth and 12th among the qualifiers.
- Tade Oroja (USC, 2023), running for Great Britain, reached the men’s 110m hurdles semifinals on Aug. 21 and placed 15th with a time of 13.43 (-0.2). He advanced out of the heats fifth with a time of 13.32 (-0.9).
- Anna Cockrell (USC, 2021) advanced to the women’s 400m hurdles final with a PR of 53.63 in the semifinals on Aug. 22, after running 54.68 to advance out of the heats on Aug. 21. The final will be held tomorrow. Dalilah Muhammad (USC, 2012) had a time of 54.19 to place ninth in the 400m hurdles semifinals, to finish ninth, one spot out of advancing. She ran 54.21 to advance out of the heats in fifth. Gianna Woodruff (USC graduate student), running for Puerto Rico, placed 15th in the semifinal with a time of 54.71, after advancing out of the heats with a time of 55.31.
