Rai Benjamin won a gold medal with USA’s men’s 4x400m relay team and Nicole Yeargin and Yemi John earned bronze medals for Great Britain’s women’s 4x400m relay team during the final day of the 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary today (Aug. 27).Â
- Benjamin (USC, 2019) anchored USA’s 4x400m relay to the gold medal with a winning time of 2:57.31. That is the world leading time for a men’s 4x400m relay this season.
- Yeargin (USC, 2021) anchored Great Britain’s women’s 4x400m relay to a third-place finish with a season-best time of 3:21.04. Yeargin and Yemi John (sophomore), who anchored Great Britain’s team in the prelims, both earned bronze medals.
- Kyra Constantine (USC, 2021) ran the third leg for Canada’s women’s 4x400m relay team which placed fourth in the final with a season-best time of 3:22.42, just missing the podium.
During the nine days of the World Athletics Championships, USC athletes combined for six medals. Trojans earning medals at the meet of the world’s best track and field athletes were:
Rai Benjamin (GOLD – M-4x400m, BRONZE – M-400m H), Yemi John (SILVER -Mixed-4x400m, BRONZE – W-4x400m), TeeTee Terry (GOLD – W4x100m), Nicole Yeargin (BRONZE – W-4x400m).
