Cross Country Tagged With No. 6 National Rankings


NEW ORLEANS – The University of North Carolina men’s and women’s cross country programs each ranked No. 6 in the 2023 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Coaches’ Poll released on Wednesday. 
 
The men’s team ranked No. 1 in the Division I Southeast regional rankings, while the women’s squad received a No. 2 ranking in the preseason poll published on Tuesday.
 
The Tar Heels are coming off the best season in program history after both teams finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships for the first time. The Carolina women posted their program-best NCAA finish by capturing fifth place, while the UNC men came in 10th, their second-best showing at the national championship meet.
 
The UNC men’s and women’s teams each return four of their top five finishers at the 2022 NCAA Championships led by All-America runners Parker Wolfe and Kelsey Harrington.
 
All-Southeast Regional performers Fatima Alanis, Brynn Brown, Eva Klingbeil, and Sasha Neglia return alongside Harrington on the women’s squad, as do Patrick Anderson and Will Coogan on the men’s side.
 
UNC cross country begins its 2023 season at the Charlotte Opener at Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C., on Friday, September 1. The men’s event starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women’s meet at 10:00 a.m.
