MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ole Miss men’s and women’s cross country opens its 2023 slate with a short trip up to the Memphis Twilight on Saturday night, hosted by Christian Brothers University at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
The Rebels will send two small delegations to Memphis to inaugurate the 2023 campaign, with the Ole Miss women represented by Hannah Ielfield, Jenna Kirby, Adie Luna, Samantha Ouellette, Brooke Preputnick, Ella Rodwell and Sarah Schiffmann, while the Rebel men will feature Marcus Dropik, Landen McNair, Miles Phillips, Gabe Scales and Carson Turner.
Ole Miss is under the direction of second-year cross country coach Adam Smith, who guided the Rebels to a successful season in 2022 that saw the Ole Miss men capture their ninth consecutive NCAA team berth and saw Rebel senior Ryann Helmers nab an individual qualifying spot to the national meet. Both Ole Miss squads were picked to finish within the top-five of the ultra-competitive NCAA South Region.
The Rebel men return All-American Cole Bullock for his final cross country season, and welcome in big additions from the transfer portal in Toby Gillen (Saint Louis), Cruz Gomez (Texas) and Jack Meijer (Wisconsin).
The Ole Miss women return its entire championships roster from 2022, led by Helmers, who put together one of the best individual seasons in Rebel women’s cross country history. Helmers finished 88th at the national meet as an individual qualifier after earning NCAA All-South Region and Second-Team All-SEC honors following a regular season that saw her clock the fastest 6K in recorded Ole Miss women’s history at 19:37.2.
Competition will begin at 9:20 p.m. CT on Saturday night with the women’s college 5K race, followed by the men’s college 4-mile race at 10 p.m. CT. More information regarding the meet can be found HERE.
