Peters, Moroney Pace Women of Utah at UVU Invitational

OREM, Utah – Freshman Anna Peters paced the Utah cross country team on Friday at the UVU Invitational with a third-place finish while the Women of Utah finished second as a team in the 5k race at Scera Park.

Peters, who was named the Idaho State Gatorade Girls Cross Country Player of the Year her senior year, ran with the lead group from the gun and looked poised all race before crossing the finish line at 16:35.3 for third-overall – which was just .3 off of her high school PR (16:53.0).

Fellow freshman Grace Moroney was the next Ute to cross, checking in with a time of 17:41.9 for 10th overall in her collegiate debut. Moroney’s mark was nearly 20 second faster than her 5k time in high school.

Ellie Lundgreen was Utah’s third scorer, coming in with a new 5k PR mark of 17:49.3 for 12th overall while Maddie Reed was right behind at 17:53.9 to crush her previous personal best by nearly two minutes. Newcomer Saydi Anderson rounded out the top-five scorers in her Utah debut with a run of 18:06.0 for 19th overall.

Claire Rusovick also posted a new PR in the 5k, crossing the finish line at 18:14.8 followed by Caroline Fischer (18:25.8) at 26th-overall and Bri Rinn at 18:45.6 (PR) for 35th-overall.

Utah will now get a few weeks to regroup and get ready to defend its title at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
