Clair Le Gallo and Johnathan Estrada Lead Sun Devil XC Teams in Flagstaff Opener

The Sun Devil cross country teams under second-year head coach Ryan Ray started their seasons Saturday afternoon at Northern Arizona’s George Kyte Invitational, held at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff.

Junior Claire Le Gallo led a solid performance by the women, finishing sixth in 15:11.7, while Sadie Heeringa was eighth in 15:30.3. The squad topped Arizona and Grand Canyon in the four-team race, falling onto to host NAU. Local product Johnathan Estrada (Desert Visa High School) led the men, as the sophomore posted a sixth-place finish.

 

Both teams have a few weeks off before competing at the Dave Murray Invitational on Friday, Sept. 29. ASU will also compete at the Highlander Invitational in Riverside, CA, on Saturday, Oct. 14, before the Pac-12 Championships held at University Place, WA, Oct. 27.
