Cross Country with Solid Showing at Season-Opening Memphis Twilight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ole Miss cross country opened its 2023 season with a pair of top-10 team finishes, with the Rebel women finishing third and the men 10th at the Memphis Twilight late Saturday night.
 
Ole Miss ended with 99 points in the women’s 5K race behind Middle Tennessee (59) and Alabama (84), helped by three individual top-10 finishers. Sophomore Sarah Schiffmann was the top finisher for the Rebels, finishing fourth overall at a 22-second PR of 17:53.52. Freshmen Adie Luna (sixth, 18:30.24) and Ella Rodwell (seventh, 18:42.06) shined in their collegiate debuts as well with top-10 finishes. Also running for the Rebel women were freshman Brooke Preputnick (32nd, 19:21.26) and sophomore Samantha Ouellette (50th, 19:36.60).
 
The Rebel men took 10th in their opener, led by sophomore Gabe Scales in fifth place at a 24-second 4-mile PR of 19:54.30. Other Ole Miss men in competition were redshirt freshman Landen McNair (20th, 20:45.69), junior Miles Phillips (64th, 21:44.78), junior Marcus Dropik (103rd, 22:35.69) and redshirt freshman Carson Turner (114th, 22:54.53).
 
Ole Miss cross country will take this coming week off before heading to Huntsville, Alabama for the Southern Showcase on Fri., Sept. 15.
