PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel east to University Park, PA for the Harry Groves Spike Shoe Invitational, held at the Penn State Blue and White Courses, Friday morning.
Pitt will be tested against Syracuse, Temple, West Virginia, Youngstown State, and host, Penn State. The Panthers last competed at Penn State in the Penn State National Open in 2021, where Jack Miller finished second in an 8K race with a time of 25:27.5, just .6 seconds shy of first place. The men’s team collected third overall. On the women’s side, Emily Brown, Sadie Carey-Tharp and Caroline Rusinski return to improve upon their tenth-place team finish two years ago.
The women kick off the event with a 6K run at 9 AM, followed by the men’s 5.2-mile race at 9:45 AM. The Panthers send fourteen women and eleven men to compete. Parking for spectators is available on the West Deck at a rate of $1.00 per hour.
On September 1, Pitt hosted the Panther Invitational at Schenley Park, where the men’s and women’s teams beat out the other four teams in attendance to take first. Seniors Jack Miller and Luke Henseler were the top finishers for the men. The women were led by Emily Brown and Winnie Incorvaia.
