Bulldogs Improve Times In Eighth Place Finish at The Southern Showcase


Huntsville, Ala- The Mississippi State cross country team set eight personal bests Friday morning en route to a seventh-place finish at the Southern Showcase.

The Bulldogs were led by Madison Jones, who placed 26th with a personal best time of 17:18.80. The junior shaved 10 seconds off her previous time and jumps to eighth in MSU’s record book for top 20 5K performances.

Fellow junior Hayley Ogle was State’s second finisher, placing 29th with a personal best time of 17:34.50 in her 2023 debut, shedding 47 seconds off her previous best. Ogle jumps to 13th place in MSU’s record book, tied with Jones’ other 5K top-20 performance set in 2022.

 

Ramat Jimoh (45th), Mallory Streetman (59th), and Hunter Anderson (67th) rounded out the top five for MSU. Jimoh finished with a time of 17:51.00, improving her time by 32 seconds from the season opening race, while Anderson finished in 18:12.20, 27 seconds faster than her previous best. Streetman, a redshirt freshman, made her cross-country debut with a time of 18:06.60.

 

Freshmen Gabrielle Boulay, Madelyn Keating, Brooklyn Quanz and redshirt freshman Maci Mills all set new personal bests, improving from their first collegiate 5k two weeks ago at The Opener. Mills shattered her previous best in the 5k by 42 seconds. Freshman Jaelyn Ogle made her collegiate debut crossing the finish line at 18:22.20.

 

The meet hosted by Jacksonville State featured 39 teams, including four SEC teams: Kentucky, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Alabama. Ole Miss took the team title in the women’s 5K with 50 points, with three top-15 finishers.

 

The Bulldogs take a week off before returning to action for the Gans Creek Classis Sept. 29 in Columbia, MO.
