Bears travel to Oregon for second meet of the 2023 season.

Cal To Send 10 Men, 10 Women To Oregon

BERKELEY – The California men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to race at the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Friday, Sept. 22. The meet, hosted by the Oregon Ducks, will take place at the Pine Ridge Golf Course in Springfield, Oregon. The men’s 8,000-meter race will begin at 11 a.m. PT with the women’s 6,000-meter race to follow at 11:45 a.m. Live results will be posted here and a live stream of both races will be available here.

The competition field for this year’s Dellinger Invite features 17 universities, including programs currently ranked in the USTFCCCA National Coaches’ Poll, with No. 9 Portland and No. 15 Oregon on the men’s side and No. 6 BYU, No. 7 Oregon and No. 17 Oregon State on the women’s side set to appear.

The race course at the Pine Ridge Golf Club is entirely grass and mostly on fairways, with two relatively flat loops. This will be the first time in recent history that Cal will make an appearance at the annual invitational.

Last time out, the Golden Bear men and women both placed at the USF Invitational on Sept. 1 in San Francisco. The men’s squad took second place overall for the second straight year while the women’s team took third place. Caden Carney and Garrett MacQuiddy paced the men, taking seventh and eighth place, respectively. Carney recorded a new personal best in the 8,000-meter run with his 24:26.2 finish.

On the women’s side, freshman Amelia Wardle-Stacey notched the top scoring position for the Bears in her debut run, coming in 11th place overall with a time of 21:06.9. Claire Yerby was next to cross the line, coming in 14th place.

The Bears are expected to return a similar roster of racers at this week’s competition, looking to continue their momentum from the season opener three weeks ago.

“Our results from USF really validated all the work we put in leading up to the race, and we’ve only put in more work in the past few weeks and continued to grow as a team,” Yerby said. “Dellinger will be a good opportunity for us to compete with some really talented teams and see where we stack up against them.”
