Roberts Leads Illini to Victory with Program’s Seventh-Fastest 8K Time

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Illinois men’s and women’s cross country teams finished their competition at the Gans Creek Classic on Friday. The men’s team was victorious with 46 points, while the women’s team placed eighth with 208 points. Senior Jack Roberts clocked the school’s seventh-fastest 8k (23:48.8) as he broke the tape first. He went from fourth to first in the last 1,000 meters of the race.

Sophomores Alex Partlow and Brady Masters finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Partlow recorded a new personal-best (24:16.1), and Masters passed four runners in the last 1k to crack into the top-10 (24:20.3). Junior Nicolas Dovalovsky was the fourth Illini to finish inside the top-15, as he placed 12th with a new personal-best (24:25.8).

Junior Halle Hill was the first Illini to finish in the women’s 6k. She placed sixth overall and registered a new personal-best (20:48.8).

Junior Maggie Gamboa was the second Illini to finish behind Hill. She clocked herself a new personal-best 6k at 21:28.1 and finished 13th overall. Junior Sam Poglitsch rounded out the top-3 Illini women finishers, and she placed 26th overall (21:44.8).

Senior Breena Shreeves recorded a new personal-best in her 64th-place finish (22:34.6).
