TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country team competed in the FSU Invitational Friday morning at Apalachee Regional Park.
The women’s team finished fifth with 170 points against strong competition in LSU and Florida while the men’s team finished sixth overall with 213 points.
Austen Cannon was the highest-performing Hurricane on the day. The junior runner placed fourth against 341 other runners in the men’s 8K, earning a time of 24:54.8. Junior Cormac O’Brien and sophomore Enrique Borrego also broke the 26:00 barrier for Miami.
Emma Maurel led the women’s team with a strong showing in the women’s 5K as the Carmaux, France, native clocked a time of 17:45.7, finishing ninth out of 335 runners.
Maurel’s time now places her seventh all-time in the program’s cross-country record book.
Madeline Scheier also had an impressive outing, the freshman finished 17th in the women’s 5K with 18:09.1.
Up next for the Hurricanes cross country team will be a trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the Alabama Invitational on Oct. 13.
