TUCSON, Ariz. – Almost four weeks after their season openers, the Sun Devil men’s and women’s cross country teams were back in action on Friday at the Dave Murray Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona.
Two members of the women’s team – Sadie Heeringa (21:29.1/11th place) and Lindsey Reed (22:47.4/31st place) – recorded personal best times in the 6K run. Junior Claire Le Gallo, who had ASU’s best time at Northern Arizona’s George Kyte Invitational on Sept. 2, posted ASU’s second-fastest time on Friday (21:54.8/19th place). The trio helped the team finish in fifth place.
On the men’s side, ASU was once again paced by local product Johnathan Estrada (Desert Visa High School), who finished in 18th place (25:10.5). Estrada also recorded ASU’s top time in Flagstaff on Sept. 2. Kristian Kimberlin finished in 32nd place (26:14.1), once again recording ASU’s second-fastest time.
After having one meet in 27 days, Friday’s contest was the first of three both teams will be competing in over a stretch of 28 days. Up next will be a trip to Riverside, Calf., for the Highlander Invitational. The teams will then conclude the month of October with the Pac-12 Championships, taking place on Fri., Oct. 27 in University Place, Wash.
