ACC Announces Week 5 Cross Country Honors


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The following runners have been recognized as Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Performers of the Week following their standout performances during Sept. 25-Oct. 1.

ACC Men’s Performer of the Week – David Mullarky, Jr., Florida State

Mullarkey (23:24.8) led the Seminoles to a second-place team finish at the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame as the top ACC finisher in the men’s open 5-mile race. The Leeds, England, native helped FSU beat three ranked teams in its best finish at a meet since 2011. He never fell out of the top 10 runners in the race, finishing fifth, as the Noles finished behind No. 9 Notre Dame by just eight points.

ACC Women’s Performer of the Week – Kelsey Chmiel, Sr., NC State

Chmiel (16:15.1) earned a second-place overall finish at the Joe Piane Invitational women’s blue 5000m race at Notre Dame. The Saratoga Springs, New York, native led NC State to a team victory with 44 points.

ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week – Innocent Ntwali, Fr., Louisville

Ntwali (25:01.5) made his collegiate debut at the Live in Lou Classic, where he was the second finisher for the Cardinals in the 8k race. The Miamisburg, Ohio, native completed the race just outside the top 100 finishers out of nearly 400 competitors.

ACC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week – Gladys Chepngetich, Fr., Clemson

Chepngetich (16:43.4) earned her second first-place finish in her third race of the season at the Live in Lou Classic. She set a new personal best in the 5K, completing the race four minutes faster than her Furman Invitational finish earlier this season.

ACC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week – Leah Stephens, Fr., NC State

Stephens (16:24.0) helped lead the Wolfpack to victory at the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame. She finished fourth overall in the 5K in her first collegiate race where she ran attached, finishing as one of five NC State runners in the top 15.

Sept. 19 – Josh Methner, Jr., Notre Dame

Oct. 3 – David Mullarky, Jr., Florida State
