NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s cross country’s Jack DesRoches was named the SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
DesRoches finished first among Commodores and 18th overall in the Joe Piane Invitational’s 5-mile race, recording a time of 24:45.7. He was the second overall freshman and top freshman finisher in the SEC. He helped lead the Vanderbilt men’s cross country team to a top-10 finish in the Gold Division.
This is the second-consecutive week that DesRoches has finished first among his teammates. Two weeks prior, at the Mountain Dew Invitational, he placed first among Vanderbilt student-athletes and freshmen and eighth overall with a time of 24:35.4 on the 7.8-kilometer course.
DesRoches and the rest of the Vanderbilt men’s cross country team will next compete in the SEC Cross Country Championships on October 27. The women’s team will compete on October 14 in the XC23 Invitational in Charlottesville, Virginia.
