Cougars headed to East Coast for 2023 Pre-Nationals


PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State men’s and women’s cross country teams get set to head back on the road this weekend as the top Cougs travel to compete in the 2023 NCAA Pre-Nationals meet hosted by the University of Virginia Saturday at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va.  

The rest of the WSU distance squads will compete in Lewiston, Idaho, at the 2023 LC State Invitational at LC State Cross Country Trail. The LC State Invitational will also take place on Saturday morning as the women’s race gets going at 9:30 a.m. with the men to follow at 10:30 a.m.

    – Women’s Championship Race: 7:30 a.m. PST

Last Time Out: 

Washington State women’s and men’s teams finished ninth (19-22-37-63-102, 243 pts) and 10th (12-19-70-79-84, 264 pts), respectively, at the Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Ind., to end the month of September. 

 

 

On the men’s side, Brian Barsaiya (23:44.6, 12th) and Kelvin Limo (23:55.9, 19th) ran with the front of the men’s blue 5-mile field to lead the WSU men.  Barsaiya finished just 36.3 seconds off of the lead pace while Limo spent the majority of the race in the top-15 of the men’s field. 

 

Back in the Pacific Northwest, senior native of Maple Valley, Wash., Ethan Martin, posted the top time for the Cougars in the men’s 8k as he finished 23rd overall in 25:31.7. Emmett Klus (25:58.1), Alec Barran (26:23.9), and Ferran Verges (26:29.7) also reached new career-best times, while Sophia Cushman finished ninth overall in the women’s 6k race at 23:32.5.
