TEMPE – Arizona State Cross Country head down to Riverside, California on Saturday to compete in the Highlander Invitational, hosted by University of California, Riverside. The men’s 8k is the first race of the morning, starting at 8 am. The women’s 6k starts at 8:40 am. Both races will be taking place at Agricultural Operations Course (Ag/Ops), UC Riverside’s home course.Â
Head Coach Ryan Ray says that his team had a great week of training and are ready for the race this weekend. “The fitness is there for both teams, but now we need to reveal it in competition.”
The top women to watch this weekend are junior Claire Le Gallo, senior Sadie Heeringa, and sophomore Mia Chavez. At the Dave Murray Invitation in Tuscon, Heeringa finished 21:29.1/11th place, Le Gallo finished 22:47.2/31st place, and Chavez finished 24:13.4/53rd place.
On the men’s side, you’ll want to look out for sophomores Johnny Estrada and Tyler Schierenberg. During the Dave Murray Invitational, Estrada finished 25:10.5/18th place.
