State Concludes the Regular Season with a Strong Seventh Place Finish


Tuscaloosa, Ala- Mississippi State’s Cross-Country team concluded its regular season Friday with a seventh-place finish at the Crimson Classic.

State finished the regular season with top-10 finishes in every meet, placing seventh in the last three meets. “This is our best regular season performance we’ve had in a long time”, head coach Chris Woods said. “We came in and competed with other teams in our conference and showed that we can beat other teams in our conference which we have been striving towards doing.”  

The meet hosted by Alabama featured six SEC teams. The Bulldog’s finished with 215 pts beating foes Tennessee (225 pts) and Georgia (242 pts). Alabama placed first with 42 pts.

The Bulldogs ran its only 5.85k of the season and were led by freshman Ramat Jimoh. Jimoh crossed the line with a time of 20:36.1 for a 14th place finish.

Also scoring for the Bulldogs were sisters Hayley (28th) and Jaelyn Ogle (35th), crossing the line with times of 20:57.7 and 21:02.2, respectively.

Sophomore Hunter Anderson(51st) and junior Madison Jones (91st) rounded out the top five finishers for state with times of 21:12.8 and 21:50.9, respectively. Anderson ran a personal best time by 25 seconds.

Three freshmen: Mallory Streetman, Gabrielle Boulay and Brooklyn Quanz were next to cross the line with times of 21:57.6, 22:01.8 and 22:45.1, respectively. Coach Woods complimented the young squad saying, “Our number one [finisher] and number three [finisher] being freshman means our future is bright. And that coach Erin has done a terrific job at recruiting”.

State’s consistency across the board was complimented by Cross Country Coach Erin Stenman-Fahey. “This was a really good step in the right direction. I’m feeling good with good momentum going into SEC Championship”.

Mississippi State will have two weeks off then head to South Carolina for the SEC championship on Oct. 27th.
