Illini Cross Country Off to Big Ten Championships


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to travel to Madison, Wis., for the Big Ten Championships on Friday. The race site is the Thomas Zimmer Championships Cross Country Course; the men begin with the 8k at 10:45 a.m. followed by the women’s 6k at 11:45 a.m. CT.  

Senior Jack Roberts leads the Illini into Madison with three wins on the year: the Illini Open (18:13.8) on Sept. 1, the Gans Creek Classic (23:48.8) on Sept. 29, and finally the Bradley Pink Classic (24:08.4) on Oct. 13. His only second-place finish came on Sept. 9 at the Wisconsin Badger Classic (24:12.6).

Junior Halle Hill is coming off a runner-up finish at the Bradley Pink Classic, where she clocked the program’s ninth-fastest 6k (20:36.9). She registered a win early on in the season at the Illini Open with a time of 17:30.8, which is her personal-best 5k.

Sophomore Alex Partlow turned in a regular season during which he finished inside the top-8 all four times. His highest finish was a bronze medal at the Badger Classic (24:22.2). Sophomore Brady Masters finished ninth at the Gans Creek Classic with a season-best 8k (24:20.3). Junior Sam Poglitsch recently ran her best 6k at the Bradley Pink Classic, where she finished 13th (21:23.0).
