The Wildcats were last in action at the UVA XC 23 Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. The competition served as a Pre-Nationals meet and featured some of the best teams in the nation. Both the men’s and women’s teams for Arizona gained valuable experience with the high caliber meet. Ian Sanchez Lopez was the top finisher for the men for the first time this season. He was followed by his twin brother, Iker Sanchez Lopez, and freshman Michael Urbanski. Sailor Hutton continued her streak of top finishes for the women, as she has been the team’s top runner in all their competitions this year. She was followed by Alisa Lyesina and freshman Sorcha Shiu.

Entering the meet, the men’s top 8k time on the year is 23:43.5 from Iker Sanchez Lopez which he ran at the UC Riverside Invitational on his way to the top overall finish for collegiate runners at the meet. The women’s top 6k time of the year is 20:39.5 from Hutton which also came at the UC Riverside Invitational.

The Arizona Men currently rank 14th in the West Region in the USTFCCCA’s latest Regional Rankings.

At last year’s Pac-12 Championships, the Arizona Men placed seventh and the Arizona Women placed ninth. On the men’s side, Ian Sanchez Lopez, Cooper Quigley, Noah Jodon, and Iker Sanchez Lopez finished first through fourth for the team. For the women, Sailor Hutton and Alisa Lyesina placed second and third for the team. These Wildcats will look to build off of last years’ experience at the championship competition.
