BERKELEY – California track & field announced Wednesday that British hammer thrower Kai Barham (London/Dartford Harriers AC) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Golden Bears and will begin his collegiate career in the 2024-25 season.
Â
Barham is Great Britain’s top junior hammer thrower with a 6k personal record of 70.58m (231-6.75), which he set in May at the Loughborough Throws Pathway International to rise to No. 19 in the world this year. His 2023 campaign brought him all the way to the finals of the European Athletics U20 Championships as the reigning England Athletics U20 champion, winning the national title by a decisive 4.39m (14-4.75). In the 2022 season, he reached the finals of the European Athletics U18 Championships following his second consecutive gold medal at the England Athletics U17 Championships.

“Kai is an exceptional talent, a great young man and an outstanding addition to our track & field team,” said assistant coach Mohamad Saatara, who leads the throws unit. “He has a bright future in the NCAA and beyond.”
