The University of Florida will host the South Regional Championship at the University’s on campus golf course. The women’s 6k championship will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT and feature 30 teams and 386 runners. Highlighting the field will be a host of nationally ranked teams, including No. 6 Florida, No. 11 Arkansas, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 Alabama, No. 19 Lipscomb and No. 24 Ole Miss. The South Region is tied for the most ranked teams in a single region with six.
The Bulldogs will bring a young and talented roster to Gainesville including four freshmen, two juniors and a sophomore.
Leading the way for State is freshman Ramat Jimoh who finished inside the top –50 at the SEC Championship with a personal best time of 21:21.1. Jimoh has been a top five finisher for the Bulldogs in all five meets she has competed in this season.
Joining Jimoh at the top of the lineup will be a pair of sisters from Watford City, North Dakota, Hayley Ogle and Jaelyn Ogle. Hayley, a junior, was the second Bulldog finisher at the SEC Championship while, Jaelyn, a freshman who earned Gatorade player of the year honors as a high school senior, finished third with a personal best time. Hayley has finished in the top five for State in all four meets she has competed in.
Hunter Anderson, who shaved 33 seconds off her 6k PR at the SEC Championship, will also return to run in the South Regional. She will be joined on the course by a pair of freshmen Madelyn Keating and Mallory Streetman, as well as junior Madison Jones.
The top two teams in each region will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship on Nov. 18 in Charlottesville, Va. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee will then choose 13 at-large teams to round out the 31-team field. The first four individual finishers who do not belong to an automatic qualifier or an at-large team, will automatically qualify for the championship along with two individual at-large selections.
