PENN STATE OUTLOOK
Â
Penn State is building momentum at the correct time as it heads into regional competition. Both Nittany Lion squads performed well at the Big Ten Championships at the end of October, and both have already raced this year’s NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional course at Lehigh.
Â
Penn State competed at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course earlier this season in the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational on September 30. The men’s team finished fifth out of 43 teams and the women finished fourth of 44. The Nittany Lions aim to continue their success from, not only the Paul Short run, but their excellent outing at the Big Ten Championships as they compete against their fellow Mid-Atlantic Region teams on Friday.
Â
Maddie Ullom took home sixth place in the Women’s 6K at the 2023 Big Ten Championships on October 27, with Florence Caron finishing 11th and Kileigh Kane 13th. The phenomenal performance of the womens team’s top-five runners helped the squad to a fourth-place finish in the conference. The team hopes to build off its stellar outing at the Big Ten meet at regionals on Friday.
Â
Evan Dorenkamp was Penn State’s top finisher at the Big Ten Championships for the men’s team. He placed 17th in the conference, helping the Nittany Lion men secure a sixth-place standing. Freshman Brian DiCola was Penn State’s second runner across the line in the race and set a personal record time of 25:01.5 in the Men’s 8K. The men’s team earned their highest placement in the Championships since 2019.
