Ducks Run for NCAA Spots in Sacramento


EUGENE, Ore. – The 2023 postseason continues Friday with the NCAA West Regional Championships at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif. The women’s 6K begins at 10 a.m. (PT) with the men’s 10K—their first of the season—to follow at 11 a.m.
 
The top two in each team race earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships (Nov. 18), hosted by the University of Virginia. The entire field complete with at-large selections will be announced Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Including both Oregon squads, the field will feature 10 nationally ranked teams—six women, four men.
 
WOMEN – No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Washington, No. 12 Oregon, No. 17 Oregon State, No. 21 California Baptist, No. 30 Portland
MEN – No. 4 California Baptist, No. 10 Stanford, No. 22 Washington, No. 26 Oregon
 
The program has collected 20 team titles at the NCAA regional meet, it’s most recent being a win by the Women of Oregon in 2018. Individually, the Ducks have won 21 titles—11 men, 10 women—among 13 runners.
 
Last year, the Women of Oregon were second at the regional meet to secure an auto NCAA bid while the UO men finished fourth but went on to earn an at-large selection. Five returners earned all-region accolades last season, a group that includes Maddy Elmore, Abdinasir Hussein, Harper McClain, Quincy Norman and Izzy Thornton-Bott.

Last Time Out
The Men of Oregon ran to a third-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships (Oct. 27) in University Place, Wash., paced by all-conference performances from Elliott Cook, Josh Edwards and Quincy Norman in a 5-6-7 showing, respectively. The UO women were fourth at the conference meet, just one point behind Colorado, and saw Maddy Elmore (fourth) and Izzy Thornton-Bott (11th) collect All-Pac-12 honors.
