SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Neema Kimtai placed 32nd with a time of 20:23.7 to lead Washington State women’s cross country in the NCAA West Regional women’s 6k from Haggin Oaks Golf Course, while Brian Barsaiya finished 36th overall in the men’s 10k with a time of 30:01.9 to lead the way for the Cougars.
Kimtai finished with her best 6k time of the season to lead the Cougars while freshman Nicole Bissell notched a new career-best, finishing in 21:21.5 to take 113th overall. The Cougar women also placed 13th as a team as Nicole Bissell (21:21.5) and Maya Nichols (22:09.5) each clocked personal-best 6k times to begin the morning for Washington State.
Kevlin Limo finished with a 10K lifetime-best time of 30:06.1, placing 41st overall, and teammate Leif Swanson finished 67th overall in 30:40.3. The Cougar men finished with an average time of 30:53 as a team, while its five scoring runners placed 13th overall with a 2:17 gap between Barsaiya’s 30:01.9 and Aiden Emerson’s 32:18.0 in his first-career 10K race.
Washington State’s top finishers from Friday’s regionals will await potential at-large bids into the NCAA Championships in Charlottesville, Va., while the distance groups also look ahead to the 2023-24 Indoor Track & Field season. The Cougars will open the indoor track and field season on Sat., Dec. 9, with the Spokane Invitational at the The Podium in Spokane, Wash.
