BOSTON – The Wisconsin men’s track and field duo of Jackson Sharp and Bob Liking made history in Boston at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday at the Track and Tennis Center.
Sharp got things started in the first heat of the 5000-meter race, finishing 13th with a time of 13:25.51. Sharp shattered the school record in the event and set an indoor PR by more than 20 seconds.
Liking competed in the second heat of the 5000 meters, winning in 13:28.03, shaving nearly seven seconds off his previous best mark. Liking moved from third to second on the UW all-time list.
Sharp and Liking both bettered the Badgers’ previous school record of 13:30.74 set by Chris Solinsky in 2007.
The duo finished 15th and 17th overall in the event that saw Graham Blank of Harvard break the NCAA indoor 5000 meters record and featured 21 runners that broke 13:30 in the 5000 meters.
IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A BADGER‼️

On the performance:
“I’m thrilled for both Jackson and Bob who came out and put the disappointment of the NCAA cross country championship behind them. That’s not always an easy thing to do when you have big individual and team goals. They both ran with purpose and I believe there’s more in the tank for both of them once we get some solid track sessions under their belts.”
Up Next:
A portion of the Badgers’ team will open their season next Saturday at the Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. Field events begin at 11 a.m. with track events to start at 2:45 p.m.
