Wildcats Begin Indoor Season with Two Away Meets

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. & SEATTLE, Wash. – Arizona Track & Field will open the 2023-24 indoor season this weekend with a pair of away meets. On Friday, the majority of the team will compete at the NAU Friday Night Axe’em Open in Flagstaff, Ariz. Then on Saturday, the Wildcat’s distance crew will be running in the University of Washington Preview in Seattle, Wash.

“Completing a long and successful fall training program, I’m very proud, and excited for the start of our 2023-24 indoor season,” said Head Coach Fred Harvey. “We have an ‘old school’ mentality for this squad and they did work this fall and are talented. The staff, athletes, and I are ready for a very successful start to the season in both Seattle and Flagstaff.”

Friday’s meet in Flagstaff, Ariz., kicks off at 1:00 p.m. MST with a trio of field events: the pole vault, long jump, and triple jump. Running events will begin at 3:00 p.m. MST with the 60m hurdles. Results for all of Friday’s events can be found here.

The UW Preview starts at 9:00 a.m. MST on Saturday with the 3000m. There will be no Wildcats competing in field events at the competition. Live results can be found here.

The Wildcats return nine competitors who have qualified and competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships: Isaac Davis, Tapenisa Havea, Youssef Koudssi, Zach Landa, Brian Limage, Jared O’Riley, James Onanubosi, Reinaldo Rodrigues, and Trayvion White-Austin. Although no returners competed at last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships, there were a handful of Wildcats right on the cusp of qualifying with a top 16 mark. Landa was 17th in the shot put and Koudssi was 20th, while Kristjan Sigfinnsson was 17th in the high jump.

Additionally, the Wildcats enter the indoor season with 28 total newcomers on the roster, including 22 new freshmen and six transfers. The majority of the newcomers will make either their collegiate or Arizona debuts this weekend.

A meet recap will be posted to ArizonaWildcats.com detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on X.
