Tigers Impress in First Day of Clemson Invitational – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

CLEMSON, S.C. – In their second meet of the indoor season, the Clemson Tigers impressed in multiple events as various athletes secured first-place finishes, set new program records and earned new personal bests in the first day of the Clemson Invitational.

“Today was a great first day and a great way to begin 2024,” Program Director Mark Elliot said. “Coming off a long break most of our athletes picked up where they left off so it is a true testament to their dedication.”

Most notable, senior Tarees Rhoden set the new program record in the men’s 600 meter run as he completed the event with a time of 1:16.10, marking a personal best for him and earning the Tiger a second-place finish. Cross Country standout and ACC XC Freshman of the Year recorded her first, first-place finish of the indoor season as she was the first to cross the line in the women’s 600 meter run (1:28.22).

In the field events, Annie Lineberger secured a first-place finish in the women’s pole vault as she cleared 3.75 meters. Just behind Lineberger was Anna Long as she earned second-place after clearing 3.60 meters. The Tigers also shined in the weight throw as Clemson earned first-place finishes on the men and women sides. For the men, Daniel Cope threw a 21.19 to secure the top finish while Marie Forbes threw a season best 22.20 to earn a first-place finish for the Tigers.

The excitement continues as the second day of the Clemson Invitational begins on tomorrow, January 13 with the first event starting at 10:30am with the women’s high jump. The meet will conclude with the men’s 4×400 meter relay.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • Caroline Johnston recorded a season best in the long jump as she jumped 5.82 meters
  • Madison Roush recorded a personal best in the mile with a finish time of 4:53.29, earning her second-place in the event
  • Sawyer Dagan recorded a personal best in the mile with a finish time of 4:12.44, earning him a 4th-place finish in the event
  • Gladys Chepngetich was the first to cross the line in the women’s 600 meter run as she completed the event in 1:28.22
  • Matthew Auble recorded a personal best in the weight throw (19.11)  and moved into the sixth place spot in the Top-10 list
  • Tarees Rhoden set the new all time record in the mens 600 meter with a finish of 1:16.10 (PB)
  • Blaik Slavinski moved into the No. 4 spot for the mens 600 meter with a finish of 1:19.24
