SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oregon track and field team posted eight wins Saturday at the UW Preview inside the Dempsey Indoor facility. The Ducks also had top-10 program performances from Klaudia Kazimierska and Maddy Elmore in the women’s mile and James Harding in the men’s 1,000 meters. In the team’s win count, Jadyn Mays was a double winner in the 60 and 200 meters.
Competing in the top section of the women’s mile, Kazimierska strengthened her hold on the No. 2 spot in program history with her time of 4:31.87 in a runner-up showing. She entered the day with a best of 4:32.03 from last season. Elmore, off her school-record 3K performance just over a month ago, lowered her lifetime best to 4:33.04 to become the seventh-fastest mile performer in UO history.
Elmore broke Jessica Hull’s 3,000-meter school record at the BU Season Opener (Dec. 2) with an 8:50.43 outing. The Eugene native was back on the track Saturday for a 2-3 finish with newcomer Mia Barnett in the 800 meters. The pair crossed the line in 2:08.87 and 2:09.38, respectively.
Barnett (4:37.89) and fellow newcomer Dalia Frias (4:46.32) also ran in the mile. Frias finished just two seconds off her lifetime best in the event despite a fall during the third lap.
Harding, a redshirt freshman from New Zealand, got his Oregon career started with a victory over 600 meters. He stopped the clock in 1:18.83, good for the fifth-fastest UO time in the event. Harding led a 1-2-5 finish for the UO men with Matt Pueschner (1:20.40) and Vincent Corday (1:21.96), respectively.
The Ducks’ first win of the day came from Mason Strunk taking the top spot in the men’s weight throw. He finished with a day’s best of 20.70m/67-11, more than five feet beyond the event runner-up. The UO sophomore clipped the final hurdle but was well clear of the field to secure the win, finishing .31 ahead of runner-up Sarah Marske of Nevada.
The Women of Oregon added a victory with Mays in the 60 meters. Mays was the top qualifier in the event at 7.33 and lowered her time to 7.24 in the final. The Ducks put six into the final with transfer Alexa Rossum (7.43) crossing in third place overall. Based on times entering Saturday’s…
