MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s track and field team continues its indoor season, traveling to two different meets this weekend.
Most of the team heads to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday-Saturday. Events begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and will continue at noon at the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility on Saturday.
On Friday, the Badgers send their throwers to the Red Hawk Opener in Ripon, Wisconsin. Events begin at 4:30 p.m.
Here are five events to watch this weekend.
1. THROWING DOWN WITH THE BADGERS: Redshirt senior Chloe Lindeman highlights the Badger throwers this weekend. Lindeman is coming off of an impressive weekend where she won the weight throw with a distance of 72 feet, 7 ¾ inches (22.14m). Wisconsin finished 1-2 in the weight throw at the meet, with graduate student Olivia Roberts placing second at 71-3 ¼ (21.72m).
Redshirt sophomore Danni Langseth will also be back competing after starting her season strong at the Badgers Midwest Invitational, where she won the shot put at 50-6 ¼ (15.40m) and finished eighth in the weight throw with 61-0 (18.59m).
2. SPRINT TO THE FINISH: Senior Kiley Robbins will be back competing this weekend as she currently holds UW’s fastest time in the 60-meter dash at 7.28, which she set last year. Robbins is coming off of a second-place finish last weekend. Graduate student Taylor Gilling will be competing in the 60-meter dash on Saturday after placing seventh last weekend, and she will also make her season debut in the 200 meters. Gillings’ fastest time is 7.47 seconds, a personal best that places her fifth in the 60-meter dash on UW’s indoor list.
3. GOING THE DISTANCE: The mile is a loaded field for the Badgers, including five runners with times under 4:50. Graduate students Madison Mooney and Victoria Heiligenthal lead the UW field with personal bests of 4 minutes, 38 seconds, and 4:40.28, respectively. While Mya Bunke, Leane Willemse, and Ruby Madden all clock in under 4:50. The mile runs on Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
