IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Wisconsin men’s track and field team won three events on Day 2 of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational that saw sprints, hurdles and distance compete in Iowa City.
Sophomore Giovanni Wearing headlined the day with a win in the 60-meter hurdles. His time of 7.72 is a new personal best, and good for third on the UW all-time list. The Ashburn, Virginia, native won the same event at last week’s Wisconsin Midwest Invitational, setting his previous personal record at 7.81.
Staying on sprints, sophomore Jalen Williams won the premier edition of the 400 meters, crossing the line in 47.69 seconds. Redshirt junior Sam Amusan set a personal best in the 60 meters of 6.78 before ultimately finishing third in the event.
On the distance side, freshman Bryce Stachewicz took home the open 800 meters, covering the track in 1 minute, 52.04 seconds. His teammate Andrew Casey continued his strong form for the Badgers as well, setting a new personal best in of the 800 meters of 1:50.44 to finish third in the premier section of the event. Grad transfer Joe dosReis recorded a top-10 finish at 1:54.81.
Three Badgers finished in the top 10 of the mile, led by Max Hartke, who placed third in 4 minutes, 7.13 seconds. Pierce Seigne followed behind in fourth at 4:07.39, while Micah Wilson finished fifth at 4:07.78.
