In honor of MySportsResults 25 years of covering Connecticut high school track and field and cross country, we will be taking a look back at 25 of the best athletes over the past quarter of a century during each season. Here are some of the top girls who have made an impact on our sport since the winter of 2000, Part 2 to follow!

Nicole Toney, Conard, Class of 2000

While Nicole Toney is probably more remembered because she still owns the CT indoor triple jump record for going on a quarter of a century, she also swept all her championships events in the 55m hurdles and long jump. Her best jump off 18-10.5 not only broke the State Open record, her distance is still the 10th best performance of all time in CT. On the same day, she also ran 8.24 in the hurdles, which is also still ranked 10th all time. She was New England champion in both events and her state record triple jump distance of 40-4.0 earned her a fourth place medal at the National Scholastic Indoor Championship. She earned the gold medal in the pentathlon with 3,411 points at the New Balance Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Monica Hargrove, Hillhouse, Class of 2000

You know you are special when they name a meet after you. In 2015, Amity hosted the Monica Hargrove Freshman & Sophomore Invitational which drew about a dozen teams. A quarter century ago,Hargrove was the State Open champion in the no-longer raced 500m and the 300m. She held the state record in the indoor 400m for 14 years with a time of 56.39 and earned All American honors in the 400m and sprint medley relay.

Nicole Kadyszewski, Norwich Free Academy, Class of 2001

A versatile athlete who qualified for New Englands in both the high jump and hurdles. Nicole Kadyszewski was 2nd in the State Open her junior year but came back the next week to jump a PR of 5-8 and win New Englands. Her senior year she won the Open high jump and earned another medal at New Englands. She was tied for the 2nd best leap in state history when she graduated and is still tied for #3 CT all time. 

Meghan Owen, Killingly, Class of 2003

Meghan Owen was the first girl to break five minutes for the mile from CT in over two decades when she took 2nd at Nationals her senior year with a time of 4:51.35. She won the Open 1000m and 1600m two straight years and New Englands 1600m in her senior year, after taking the runner-up spot her junior year. Owens is still top 10 in the 1000m…
