SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Illinois men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the first day of the Meyo Invitational on Friday (Feb. 2). Freshman Avril Andre entered the program’s top-10 list in the 5000m; she placed fourth with the program’s sixth-fastest time (16:37.29).
Freshman Cody Johnston claimed fourth place in the men’s pole vault competition, 5.35m (17-6 1/2). He was a centimeter away from tying his personal-best at 5.36m (17-7).
Junior Maggie Gamboa set a new personal-best in the 5000m (16:57.59), she placed 10th in today’s race. Three new personal bests were registered in the men’s 5000m race. Sophomore Alex Partlow led the Illini in fourth place (14:25.27), junior Anthony Maida finished right behind him in fifth (14:27.02), and senior Evan Cummins placed 29th (14:56.73).

The Illini track and field teams are back in action tomorrow (Feb. 3) for the final day of the Meyo Invitational with the track events beginning at 9 a.m. and the field events starting at 10 a.m. Fans can watch the action on ESPN at 1 p.m CT.
