Markezich Leads NCAA After Meyo Mile First Place Finish – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish track and field team hosted their annual Meyo Invitational as the top athletes from 37 teams competed in Loftus Sports Center on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3.

Olivia Markezich had herself a day on Saturday as she ran a PR time of 4:27.76 in the Meyo Mile, finishing 11 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Her 4:27.76 finish currently leads the NCAA in the women’s mile so far this season. 

In the men’s Meyo Mile, Carter Solomon (3:59.01), Vincent Mauri (3:59.05), and Ethan Coleman (3:59.31) finished second, third and fourth respectively, each running sub four minutes with Mauri and Coleman each recording personal bests. 

Michael Shoaf took home first in the shot put on day one as he recorded a 19.93m throw in the event. His throw of 19.93m in the Meyo Invitational puts him in first place of the ACC and second in the NCAA so far this season.

Alaina Brady took home second in the women’s pentathlon as she scored 4066 points, winning the long jump with a 5.70m jump. This season Brady currently sits at number 2 in the ACC and number 13 in the NCAA pentathlon leaders after scoring 4066 in the Meyo.

Erin Strzelecki and Andrea Markezich also had impressive performances as they led the 3000m with first and second place finishes, recording respective times of 9:21.88 and 9:23.13.
