Trojans Win Six Events During The First Day Of The Eagle Elite Invitational

USC student-athletes won six events and Marne Sullivan set the Trojan women’s indoor 800m record during day one of the Eagle Elite Invitational held at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass. today (Feb. 9).  Trojans winning events today were Johnny Brackins Jr. (M-60m H), Justin Braun (M-60m), Jasmine Jones (W-60m H), Samirah Moody (W-60m), JC Stevenson (M-LJ) and Madison Whyte (W-400m).

  • Junior Samirah Moody led a 1-2-3 finish in the women’s 60m dash, winning the title with a season-best time of 7.27. Sophomore  Jassani Carter placed second in the 60m with a time of 7.30 and sophomore Christine M. Mallard was third with a time of 7.31.  Graduate student Chioma Okonkwo placed seventh in the 60m dash final with a time of 7.56.  In the prelims, Moody had a time of 7.34, Mallard a time of 7.40, Carter a time of 7.40 and Okonkwo a time of 7.52.
  • The Trojans went 1-2 in the men’s 60m dash with sophomore Justin Braun edging junior Travis Williams.  Braun won with a time of 6.61 (6.603) with Williams taking second with a season-best time of 6.61 (6.606). Williams moved from 11th to tied for eighth on USC’s all-time 60m dash list.  One of the athletes he is tied at eighth on the list with is Stevenson who placed fourth today with a time of 6.68. 2020 Olympic 100m silver medalist Fred Kerley placed sixth in the final with a time of 6.70.  In the prelims, Williams had a time of 6.67, Braun 6.68 and Stevenson 6.70.
  • Sophomore JC Stevenson won the men’s long jump with a leap of 25-7.50 (7.81m).  He fouled in his first two attempts and had to land a legal jump to advance, then jumped 24-3.50 (7.40m) in the third round.  He won the meet in the fourth round with his next jump of 25-7.50.
  • Senior Jasmine Jones won the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.05, followed by freshman Nonah Waldron in second with a PR of 8.24.  Sophomore Simone Ballard had a season-best time of 8.35 to finish fifth.  Jones had a time of 8.12 in the prelims, while Waldon ran 8.42 and Ballard 8.43.
  • Junior Johnny Brackins Jr. tied his PR and second-place standing on USC’s indoor 60m hurdles list with a time of 7.60 to win the event today.  Junior Di’Niko Bates placed third with a time of 7.92.  Brackins Jr. had a time of 7.62 in the prelims, while Bates advanced with a time of…
