MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s track and field duo of Adam Spencer and Jason Swarens earned Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced on Wednesday.
Spencer was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record in the mile at the Millrose Games on Sunday while Swarens collected Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honors after moving up to No. 2 in school history in the indoor shot put during an event win at the Wisconsin Windy City Invitational.
Spencer made history with a school-record performance in the Wanamaker Mile at the 2024 Millrose Games at The Armory. Spencer crossed the line in 3:52.70 seconds to finish sixth and was the top collegian in the invite. Spencer’s time is the second-fastest in Big Ten Conference history and Spencer is the No. 7 performer in NCAA history in the mile.
It is Spencer’s first Athlete of the Week award. He is the first male Badger to win indoor weekly honors since the UW distance medley relay was recognized last indoor season.
Swarens moved up to No. 2 on the all-time school record list in the shot put after winning the event with a toss of 65 feet, 4 ¾ inches (19.93m). His mark is the second best in Division I this season and best in the Big Ten Conference.
It marks the first time that Swarens, a native of Terre Haute, Indiana, has earned Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honors. He is also the first Badger to collect Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week accolades since Sam Coil was honored on Feb. 24, 2023.
