SEATTLE – For the second-straight year, the Huskies broke the NCAA Record in the women’s distance medley relay. And for the second-straight year, that performance was rewarded with a National Athlete of the Week award from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Friday night in Boston, at the Boston University track, the UW foursome of Chloe Foerster (1200-meter leg), Anna Terrell (400-meter leg), Marlena Preigh (800-meter leg), and Carley Thomas (1600-meter leg) won the Terrier DMR Challenge in 10:43.39, more than three seconds faster than the previous Collegiate Record, which the Huskies had set in 2023 in 10:46.62.

The Dawgs needed every second of their record just to get the victory, as Providence (10:44.07) and BYU (10:44.67) finished second and third, also under the old mark.

Foerster split 3:15.29 on the opening leg then Terrell ran 54.74. Preigh opened up a gap with her 2:03.34 split in the 800m leg, and then Thomas led the entire final leg, posting a split of 4:30.02.

The new top-ranked DMR time pushed the Huskies as a team up to No. 6 in the latest women’s national rankings, a season-high for the Dawgs.

Friday’s Dawg DMR dominance also included an American Indoor Record, pending ratification, for the Husky men’s team of Joe Waskom, Daniel Gaik, Nathan Green, and Luke Houser, set at the Arkansas Qualifier.
