On Tuesday night at Bloomfield High School many of the season’s best athletes gathered to compete in the unofficial CT state championship at the State Weight Throw meet. As in the past several years without an official state championship, like that held during the outdoor season, state athletes competed to improve or establish their best throws of the season or their career.

In the field of a dozen competitors for the girls 20-lb weight throw, Lauren Plummer of Loomis Chaffee missed her personal best by only 3-inches as she won with a toss of 45-00 on her last throw of the night (click to view video). Hall’s Anna Siciliano improved on her personal record with a toss of 42-5 for second place that also qualified her for the NBNI event in March (click to view video). Bloomfield’s Payton Sirdine improved her personal best by almost 2-feet with her throw of 40-1 that placed her in third on the night (click to view video).

In the second event of the night the boys 25-lb weight throw was highlighted by the winning 64-3 toss by Simsbury’s Marshall Potter, a 4-foot improvement over his previous personal best mark (click to view video). As runner-up, East Lyme’s Thomas Matlock unleashed a toss of 62-7.5 in the finals to earn a personal record by over 4-feet (click to view video). Bethel’s Greyson Golda uncorked his personal best toss of 61-3.5 to earn third place in the field of 24 competitors (click to view video).
