Track and Field Opens Postseason Competition At SEC Indoor Championships


COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri track and field team begins postseason competition with the SEC Indoor Championships, Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24. The meet will take place at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Missouri will open the competition with its first event at 4 p.m. on Friday and 4:05 p.m. on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Tigers sent contingents to the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Tyson Invitational, hosted by Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas, as the team’s final regular-season tuneup.
  • Three Tigers — graduate student Mitch Weber, senior Alicia Burnett and senior Kelsey Schweizer — set program top-10 marks in Nashville.
  • Junior Rece Rowan earned an event victory in the men’s shot put open, clinching his second win in as many meets.

FEELIN’ THE BURN

  • Sprinter Alicia Burnett has been on a record-breaking tear through the indoor season as she looks to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
  • In the 60m prelims at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, the St. Louis, Missouri, product set the program’s women’s 60m record with a 7.28 mark. Burnett broke LaQuisha Jackson’s time of 7.31 set in 2015.
  • In the event final, she blew away her old mark set earlier in the day with a 7.21 sprint.
  • Her 7.21 stands not only as the best time in the history of Missouri Track and Field, but as one of the best times in the country this season. Her time is tied for the 12th-best 60m mark in the NCAA.
  • In addition to her 60m prowess, Burnett also posted the fourth-best women’s 200m mark (24.06) and sixth-best women’s 400m clip (55.00) in program history.

WEBER EARNS SEC HONORS

  • In the ring and the classroom, graduate student Mitch Weber is looking to close out his final indoor season with the Black and Gold with a bang.
  • On Wednesday, the SEC announced the Saint Clair, Minnesota, thrower as SEC Men’s Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year thanks to his continued prowess as a student-athlete.
  • The three-time SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll recipient is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in global supply chain management and holds a 4.0 GPA in graduate school.
