Elias Gerald won the men’s high jump, Nathan Cumberbatch won the men’s 800m race and the men’s 4x400m relay won with a meet and facility record during the final day of the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational held at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. today (Feb. 24). Additionally, Marne Sullivan bettered her school record in the indoor 800m race.
- Elias Gerald won the men’s high jump with a clearance of 7-0.50 (2.15m). It was his fourth consecutive meet jumping at least that height and he has won four of the six competitions he has competed in this indoor season.
- Nathan Cumberbatch won the men’s 800m race with a time of 1:48.33. Morgan Fierro placed sixth in his first indoor 800m race with a time of 1:52.55 and Josh Ligas took eighth with a time of 1:52.78.
- The men’s 4x400m relay team of Justin Braun, Johnnie Blockburger, Jacob Andrews and William Jones closed out the meet in style by winning with a meet and Dempsey Indoor record of 3:04.95. That time broke the mark of 3:05.01 set by the Trojans last season. USC’s time today moved this quartet to fifth on the Trojans’ all-time indoor 4x400m list.
- Madison Whyte placed second in the women’s 400m dash with a PR of 52.16 and moved from eighth to seventh on USC’s all-time list. Yemi John took third with a time of 52.17 and Jan’Taijah Jones was fourth with a time of 52.55. Takiya Cenci placed 10th with a season-best time of 54.57.
- William Jones took second in the men’s 400m race with a time of 46.56. Jacob Andrews, back in his home state, placed third with a PR of 46.92 and Johnny Blockburger was sixth with a time of 47.70.
- Marne Sullivan placed seventh and broke her school record in the women’s 800m race with a time of 2:04.17. She originally set the record with a time of 2:04.79 at the Eagle Elite Invitational on Feb. 9. Gigi Maccagnini placed 10th (8th among collegians) with a season-best time of 2:05.43. Alyssa Blockburger also posted a personal-best time of 2:09.82.
- Jada Foreman took seventh in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 39-3.75 (11.98m) and Ahnyx Bush was 10th with a jump of 37-6.75 (11.45m).
- Also today, Marina Soares ran a 1-mile PR of 4:59.25 to move into 10th on the USC women’s all-time indoor list and Zane Golpariani posted a 1-mile time of 4:10.98 to move into 9th on…
