USC T&F Wins Six Events During Final Day Of The Beach Opener

Racquil Broderick’s freshman record in the men’s discus throw highlighted USC’s six event wins to lead the Trojans during the final day of the Beach Opener held Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif.  today (March 2). 

  • In his first meet as a Trojan, Racquil Broderick won the men’s discus throw competition with a USC freshman-record toss of 204.6 (62.34m).  That throw moved him to second on USC’s all-time list, trailing only Gary Carlsen’s school record of 206-0 (62.78m) set in 1967.  No USC men’s discus thrower had cracked the school’s top 10 since 2010 and no Trojan had topped 200 feet since 1986.
  • Alyssa Hope won the women’s long jump competition with a best jump of 20-7.25/6.28m (+3.8w).  Her best wind-legal jump of the day was 19-1.75/5.82m (+1.2).  Kiara Strayhorn placed fourth with a best long jump of 19-4.00/5.89 (+2.7w).  Her best wind-legal jump of the day went 18-10.75/5.76 (+0.2). 
  • Rae-Anne Serville won the women’s 400m dash with a time of 54.32, Alyssa Blockburger was second with a time of 55.95 and Gigi Maccagnini was third with a time of 56.98.
  • Darius Rainey won the men’s 400m dash with a time of 48.07, while Charlie Jeffreson was fourth with a time of 48.79 and Max Thomas was fifth with a time of 48.93.
  • Simone Ballard won the women’s 100m hurdles with a PR of 13.41 (+0.5), while Kiara Strayhorn was fourth with a time of 14.37 (+0.5) and Alexandra Chan was sixth with a time of 14.83 (+1.8).
  • Christine M. Mallard won the women’s 200m race with a wind-aided time of 23.06 (+3.1w) and Takiya Cenci placed third with a windy time of 24.08 (+2.4w).
  • Michael Phillippy placed second in the men’s 200m dash with a time of 21.24 (+2.7w) and Jaelen Knox was third with a time of 21.47 (+2.7w).
  • Tracy Towns placed second in the women’s 1500m race with a time of 4:37.03.  Marina Soares placed fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:42.05 and Marjourie Lopez was eighth with a time of 4:50.89.
  • Lauren Reed placed second in the women’s triple jump with a best leap of 41-5.75/12.64m (+1.0), tops among the collegians. Jada Foreman placed third with a jump of 39-8.00/12.09 (+0.8) and Ahnyx Bush placed fifth with a jump of 38-5.50/11.72m (+1.8).
