Allie Jones placed fourth in the pentathlon and Johnny Brackins Jr. was fourth in the men’s long jump during the first day of the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships being held at the TRACK at new balance in Boston, Mass. today (March 8). In addition, five Trojans advanced to event finals tomorrow and Madison Whyte set the USC freshman women’s indoor 200m record.
- Allie Jones placed fourth in the women’s pentathlon with a total of 4,369 points to earn first-team All-America honors and the USC women’s team its first five points in the team competition. She started her day by winning the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.20 to earn 1084 points, then finished 15th in the high jump, clearing 5-4.25 (1.63m) to earn 771 points. She then had a shot put best of 41-2.50 (12.56m) to place fourth and earn 698 points. Jones then had a PR of 20-8.00 (6.30m) to finish second in the long jump and earn 943 points. She also moved from seventh to tied for fifth on USC’s all-time indoor long jump list. Jones closed the day by placing third in the 800m with a time of 2:16.43 to earn 873 points.
- Johnny Brackins Jr. placed fourth in the men’s long jump with a best leap of 26-3.50 (8.01m). He jumped that in his second attempt, but then went to compete in the 60m hurdles and was unable to resume competing in the long jump. Brackins Jr. earned first-team All-America honors and USC five points in the men’s team competition.
- Brackins Jr. won the men’s 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 7.58 to advance to tomorrow’s final.
- Jasmine Jones advanced to the women’s 60m hurdles final tomorrow by winning her prelims heat with a time of 7.90, second among the qualifiers.
- William Jones had the top time of 45.40 in the men’s 400m prelims today and advanced to the final tomorrow. Jones’ time set the facility record.
- Yemi John had a time of 51.87 to place fifth in the women’s 400m prelims. The final will be contested tomorrow.
- Travis Williams took third in the men’s 60m dash prelims with a time of 6.60 to advance to the final tomorrow.
- Madison Whyte set the USC freshman indoor 200m record with a time of 22.90, but placed ninth and did not advance to the final. Whyte finished 0.001 second out of eighth place and a spot in tomorrow’s final. Whyte also moved from eighth to…
